Stromboli ... and Panarea

Stromboli is the only "active" volcano in the Aeolian islands. Vulcano is also "active" but it only smokes ... Stomboli actually erupts every 20 minutes. Next time I go I actually want to take the tour to the top of the crater and see it more closely.

Mom and I took the boat tour out there - it stopped in Panarea and then went onto to Stromboli. Panarea - a "dead" volcano - broke into pieces - hence it's awkward shape.

Big to do - the police helicopter landed ... yeah no one escorted on or off - quite disappointing.









Stromboli's beaches are black. Makes it kind of eerie. We didnt swim in the water - not sure if you can. I didnt see anyone swimming.
























On our way back to Lipari this song played and was stuck in my head for days! It's ridiculously catchy. Anyway - one of the guides on the boat was trying to pick up a young Italian girl - rather he was trying to woo her by asking her dance. HILARIOUS! Poor guy got shot down. Enjoy!
